Communication CenterHome Zixi delved into the medium that might be used for bird communication. Every time a plane crash is discussed, there is often a case to be made that birds are a risk factor. When she searched for this topic online, it showed that almost fifty bird strikes have been reported daily on average until now. In other words, people still have not fundamentally solved this problem. This inspired her to make a system that can be used not only for communication between birds but also for communication between humans and birds. The entire installation is centered around a bird feeding bowl, surrounded by four colorful acrylic pattern combinations that convey different messages. To test whether the device would attract birds, she left it in the wild for four days. I placed it in her garden the first day, but it was probably too low. The next day she put it on a shelf, but there may not be trees around to cover it. On the third day, she put it in the grass, but it attracted a cat and a dog. The problem is obvious: the birds don't know if this is a trap, and the birds don't understand what any of this means. Therefore, this installation would not make sense without help from the field of animal behavior. If she were to take it one step further, I think it would be possible to combine audio and installation. Because birds naturally use sound to communicate, this would make them more adaptable. On the contrary, installation and vision are easier for people to distinguish. If a pattern is associated with a sound that the birds can distinguish, it's more efficient for both parties.
